Five Must-Have New Arrivals from Emilia Ceramics

When Emily announced in the spring that she was planning a buying trip to Mexico, I knew we would be in for something special. After all, the crafts of Gorky GonzalezCapelo, and Talavera Vazquez are nothing less than spectacular. I love how beautifully crafted all their pieces are, and the fantastic functionality. It’s hard to choose favorites, but I wanted to pull together a must-have list just in case you were seeking the perfect gift or to add to your own collection.

Large Triple Dish – La Flor

Large Triple Dish – La Flor, $58

The colors of this Gorky Gonzalez’s triple dish are so vibrant. I can see why Emily hand-picked this on her visit to his showroom. This triple dish is beautifully-painted and one of a kind. Perfect for serving a variety of olives, nuts, or complimentary sauces.

Mini Rectangular Plate with Rooster

Mini Rectangular Plate with Rooster, $28

Another Gorky piece, this charming little dish can be used in so many ways, from resting a coffee spoon on the kitchen counter to keeping jewelry next to your bed. I love the rooster depiction. (And remember: roosters in the kitchen bring good luck!)

Footed Plate with Blue Stripes

Footed Plate with Blue Stripes, $145

There is just something about blue and white ceramics that I cannot deny. That’s why this beautifully-crafted cake plate really stands out to me. It is completely multi-functional, not only would it perfectly present a cake, it also makes a great surface for serving cheese and crackers. It’s rustic, yet contemporary. To me, it’s perfect.

La Mexicana Mixing Bowl

La Mexicana Mixing Bowl – Large, $96

So functional! This deep bowl is great for mixing dough, tossing a salad or filling with fruit on the kitchen counter. Looks great with Gorky’s colorful plates.

Venado Verde Mini Plate

Venado Verde Mini Plate, $32

This plate makes me think of fall and Thanksgiving. I’d love to serve dessert on it. Venado means deer in Spanish. While it is meant to be a bread plate, this mini plate also makes a great soap dish, spoon rest, butter dish, and/or dessert plate.
