Who can resist black and white? It’s a great way to add sophistication to any space, from a nursery to formal dining room. Accented with a pop of color, mixed with wood, or kept to strict black and white only, this color combo is very definitely chic. Looking for how to make your black and white décor feel current? Here are some of my favorite black and white decorating ideas to get you going:
Use plenty of textures. The black and white interiors in this post by SF Girl by Bay are an eclectic mix that all use an astonishing amount of textures to feel anything but flat. From black and white vases on end tables to metal accents in steel, chrome, and copper, these black and white shots are simply divine. I particularly love this kitchen shelving display that comes from Desire to Inspire—it’s a great mix of black and white jars that packs visual punch without taking up too much space. I could see using some black and white ginger jars to create something similar in my own kitchen.
Keep personality front and center. Black and white can be basic, but it shouldn’t be boring. Take this black and white bedroom from Lea Monaco: the simple line drawing on the wall is wonderfully quirky while the black and white stripe sheets are much more classic.
A playful black and white vase, like the Hildago design by Talavera Vazquez, nicely balances a collection of other striped, plain, or zig zag black and white vases. This room by Elle Décor is also full of black and white whimsy; the black and white wallpaper is totally fun and the perfect accent for the black leather daybed.
Think about shapes. Black and white allows for the line of a piece to really stand out, be it a black and white ginger jar or a sofa. A white lamp with black shade, black sofa with black and white cushions, wood dining table with black and white chairs… with all the ways to mix these two colors, you’re sure to find something that fits your style and makes the room pop.
